Landscape Design

Retaining Wall at a Residential HomeLandscape Design

If you’re interested in creating an outdoor oasis in your back yard, look no further! Many people get grand ideas of landscaping their home’s front yard and back yard all on their own and think that they can implement some of the complicated designs typically shown on HGTv or other home improvement programs. While you may be capable of doing so, you also need to keep in mind that these are professionals with years of experience. However, this doesn’t mean that it is impossible to do your own landscaping, but you do need to keep a few things in mind.

For example, if you have kids, then you may want to have a play area or if you’re an avid gardener, then you may want to carve out a space just for gardening. Whatever your needs and desires are, it is important to begin with some rough sketches of the space that show exactly what you want. We have the ability to take your ideas and turn them into reality, developing a plan for the area, which is one of the first principles in good landscape design.

Before you decide on what to place where, you need to consider how the sun, rain and wind occur throughout the day and night. Another aspect of good landscaping is being aware of the actual time it takes to get things done as well as the growth rate of plants, trees and flowers.

Lastly, make sure that you create a focal point or a few focal points in your design. A good landscape draws you in towards a specific point of interest. This may be a sculpture, a specific tree, a series of color coordinated flowers.
